As part of measures to ensure the protection of Police Officers ,the Interior Minister,Ambrose Dery has ordered the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong -Boanuh to arm all personnel who go for night duties.
The order,comes on the back of the latest killings of two Police officers identified as Sgt Michael Dzamesi and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal.
The deceased officers,were on duty on the afternoon of Wednesday August 28,2019 when some men in an unregistered vehicle at Buduburam Camp shot them.
Speaking to the media after a visit to the families of the deceased officers, on Thursday August 29 2019, the IGP,James Oppong -Boanuh said “from today, we will give MTTD officers weapons indicating it was a directive from the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery.
The IGP who was in the company of the Interior Minister and some other Police Officers added “all police officers who go on outside duties will be armed with bullet proof vests and helmets to be able to protect thselves whenever necessary because desperate situations calls for desperate measures.
Meanwhile a 100,000 Ghana cedis bounty has been announced for anyone who provides authentic information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.
